Project Name: South Asia Wash Result Project-2

Introduction to the project implementing agency Eco Social Development Organization (ESDO):
A group of development-loving youths from Thakurgaon came forward to help the flood-affected people in the northern part of Bangladesh in 1986. Later on, as they came very close to the backward sections of the society, they felt that an organized course of action could change the fate of these backward sections in general and women in particular. It was from this self-realization that the ESDO took institutional form in the northern part of Bangladesh on 3 April 1986.
SDO Mission: Increases the income of poor people through massive income generating activities, food security, primary education and literacy, health and nutrition, human rights and good governance, environmental development etc.
ESDO Vision: To establish an egalitarian society free from discrimination. 
Reduction of economic poverty and practice and improvement of humane scholarships. The organization is committed to its goal and effectively transcends human rights, human dignity and gender equality.
Working to ensure the empowerment of the social, economic and human qualities of the target population. Women in general and children in particular are at the heart of ESDO's activities. In all kinds of services
The main goal is to ensure the access and accessibility of the poorest people.

Funding: WaterAid Bangladesh.
WaterAid is an international development agency. Currently, WaterAid works on safe water, sanitation and health practices in 28 countries around the world. WaterAid's activities in Bangladesh started in 1986.
WaterAid Vision: WaterAid wants to see the world in a way that provides safe water, sanitation and hygiene for all.
TarAid Mission: WaterAid aims to improve the quality of life of the world's poorest people through the development of safe water, hygienic practices and sanitation. Good results of WaterAid work
Works with NGOs for implementation and influences the views of decision makers at various levels.

Ideas about wash result project:
The Wash Results project is designed to achieve strategic development goals with funding and collaboration from DFID. The project is being implemented through various international development agencies (Plan Bangladesh, Wadek) and other organizations including WaterAid Bangladesh.

Project duration:
From 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2021. Output phase: from June 2018 to June 2019. Outcome Phase: From July 2019 to March 2021.

Project Area: 18 Unions of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila. Respectively: Akcha, Akhanagar, Auliapur, Balia, Bargaon, Begunbari, Chilarang, Debipur, Gareya, Jamalpur, Jagannathpur, Mohammadpur, Nargun, Rahimanpur, Rajagaon, Ruhia West, Raipur and Sukhanpukuri.
Manpower of the project: Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Office will have 9 people (PM-1, Monitoring Officer-1, Engineer-1, Finance Officer-1, Community Development Officer-3, 2 support staff). There will be 16 unions and 16 offices, with a total of 54 union facilitators in each office. Besides, there will be a total of 162 community volunteers in 9 wards of each union. The total manpower of this project is 225 people.
Kalpa Implementation Stage: The project will be implemented in four phases including community, ward, union and upazila.
The objectives of the project are to increase the practice of safe water, sanitation facilities and improved health practices for the poor and disadvantaged people in the northern part of Bangladesh and to play a helpful role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Objectives of the project 6
Safe water: One hundred percent of the people in the project area are drinking and using water from safe water sources.
Sanitation: All the beneficiaries are using hygienic latrines, of which 85% are using improved latrines.
Hygiene practices: Beneficiary groups are practicing advanced hand washing habits.
Government System: The Union Parishad is monitoring and coordinating the wash activities in its area.

Safe water:
Main tasks:
1.1: Establishment of water points suitable for the area

1.4: Involvement of stakeholders through quarterly meetings and other activities
1.5: Celebrating World Water Day
1.6: Training of Caretakers and Community Mechanics for Water Point Repair and Maintenance
Sanitation:
Main tasks:
2.1: To ensure the installation and use of latrines at the household level through public awareness
2.2: Establishment of latrines with the help of extremely poor, disadvantaged and disabled people
2.3: Expansion of Capacity Building and Sanitation Equipment to Local Entrepreneurs on Sanitation Marketing
2.4: Celebration of Sanitation Month at Union and Upazila level
2.5: Development of capacity of Union Wash Standing Committee for improvement of sanitation condition at local level
2.6: Formation of Ward Level CBO
Hygiene practices:
Main tasks:
3.1: Organizing campaigns at the community level on the practice of hand washing habits
3.2: Discussions with women and adolescents in the backyard on hygiene, especially hand washing with soap
3.3: Large scale publicity / day celebration on wash at ward, union and upazila level
3.4: Raising awareness about wash through popular theater / film screenings at upazila and community level
3.5: Dissemination of information on health practice through billboards and graffiti
3.6: Celebrating World Handwashing Day

Government system:
4.1: Organizing workshops to inform the project of participation of local government / representatives at the upazila level
4.2: Organizing planning workshops at union level to coordinate wash projects
4.3: Learning inspections of government and local government representatives on wash issues and sustainable development
4.5: Monthly Progress Review Meeting.
4.6: Development and printing of IEC and BCC materials, guidelines and training modules
